Thomas Elsasser Fund

The Thomas Elsasser Fund helps non-line of duty widows. The Fund is supported by numerous golf outings, the Ronaldson and Turkey Trot runs, one-pitch tournaments and the Farrell Family Fund.

When the fund is notified that a widow needs assistance and may need a major repair to her home (repairs may range from $100 to $10,000), volunteers are contacted. The fund pays for the material costs for the repair but active and retired members of the FDNY volunteer the labor for the job Some examples of necessity are a new roof; huge tree removal, electrical repairs; new oil burner; new window and doors.

The Fund is trying to establish a yellow page book of talented members to help families in need. Only the Elsasser Fund would have access to the yellow pages.

If anyone would like to get involved, call Sheila Pettit at the UFA office, 212-545-6962 or email spettit@UFANYC.org .

Please include your name/firehouse/skill/phone/email.

Big Brothers and Sisters Needed

Build a valuable relationship with a “little” in need.

If you are at least 21 years of age and an FDNY employee, family member, or retiree you could be the perfect mentor for a child who lost a firefighter or EMS parent on 9/11.

The Counseling Service Unit of the FDNY, in partnership with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of New York City, is looking for volunteers to provide one-on-one support to a child. Mentors are required to spend 8 hours per month with the child they are matched with for a period of one year.
